Duty to Co-Operate

The Council has a duty to work with neighbouring local authorities and other partners on cross-boundary strategic planning matters.

As part of this co-operation Sefton Council, the other local authorities in the Liverpool City Region (including West Lancashire) and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have prepared a Statement of Common Ground. This has been prepared jointly in response to the National Planning Policy Framework (February 2019) requirement for strategic policy-making authorities to document agreement and cooperation on cross boundary strategic planning matters. It also forms part of the evidence required by local planning authorities to demonstrate compliance with the Duty to Cooperate.
