Access Controls and Barriers Consultation

Three photos of paths blocked with a metal chicane, a metal gate, and steps, demonstrating barriers on paths in Sefton.

Sefton Council are updating their policy around barriers to make walking, cycling, and wheeling more accessible.

The policy will remove barriers that block paths, starting with leisure routes like the Costal Path, Cheshire Lines and along the canal paths.

For areas with high anti-social behaviour, barriers like bollards and chicanes will be considered that are still accessible for cyclists, wheelchair users, and prams.

Have your say

The consultation will be live on Your Sefton Your Say from Wednesday 1st October to Monday 1st December 2025. Complete the consultation.

Sefton Council and our partners have audited the access controls and barriers, which can be seen in the map below.
