Getting your application right first time


We aim to provide a quicker, more predictable and efficient planning service. As part of our service improvements we have prepared an updated Planning Validation Checklist. The checklist has been produced to help users of our Planning Service to be clear on what needs to accompany applications for planning permission or other similar consents.

Our Validation Checklist document was reviewed in summer 2023 and no changes were proposed from the previous version.

Please note, due to recent changes in the way viability reports should be published by the Council, this section has been updated to avoid any confusion. The specific requirements, however, have not changed.

Please note also that the Government has recently introduced a new mandatory requirement for 10% Biodiversity net gain (BNG). This applies to major development, and minor development – for applications submitted from 2nd April 2024. There are some exemptions, including householder development. The Council has not yet amended its Validation Checklist to take account of the new National Validation requirements or to set out any new Local Validation requirements.
