A simple and dignified goodbye
Direct cremation is an alternative to the standard cremation service. A summary is provided in the video below:
What is direct cremation?
Direct cremation is a service where the cremation is carried out without a formal ceremony.
After cremation is completed, the deceased's ashes are released either to their family or to the funeral director - depending on the family's wishes.
We offer two options: either an unattended or an attended direct cremation.
This service is available both at Thornton and Southport Crematoria.
Why do people choose direct cremation?
- Direct cremation is a lower cost option, with prices starting at £280
- Many people prefer a no-frills, straightforward option for after they pass
- It may also be preferred by families who want a private service or want to plan their own way of paying respects
Why choose Sefton's direct cremation option?
By choosing direct cremation at Thornton Garden of Rest or Southport Crematorium, families can rest assured that their loved one's remains are being cared for right here in Sefton.
Rather than being taken to venues up to hundreds of miles from home, loved ones will stay in their community to be looked after by our experienced and dedicated staff.
It also makes it more likely that remains will be returned quickly.
Same care, different cost
Our Bereavement Services team offers the same professional care for every person or family who calls upon our services.
While a direct cremation costs less and is less formal than a regular cremation, it includes the same dedicated support for families throughout their journey of paying respects.
It includes all the guidance they can expect to receive with a regular cremation or a burial.
Families still have the option of adding to the direct cremation service. That includes being able to walk into the chapel with the ashes, accompanied by music of their choice.
There are many memorial options available for a long-term tribute.
