Dementia Support Groups
CRISP (Carer Information and Support Programme)
Are you concerned about your finances? Do you have access to good quality information? Do you worry about the future? Do you feel isolated and unable to cope with your new caring role? Don’t panic, help is at hand. It is possible to live well with dementia.
Our CrISP courses run over four sessions once a week for about 90 minutes. These sessions are usually in the evenings and online. They provide an ideal opportunity for you to meet other carers for vital peer support. Call or email for details of the next course.

Dementia Advisers
Our Dementia Advisers are here to support you if you have a dementia diagnosis or care for someone who does. They provide a range of support including information about local groups and services, signposting for things like legal and benefits help and emotional support. They can also answer your dementia questions and help with some of the more challenging aspects of this disease.

Carer's Allowance
Carer's Allowance is the main welfare benefit to help carers. You may still be able to claim it, even if you don't think of yourself as a carer.

Care needs assessment
If you think you, or someone you know, needs help to cope day-to-day, the first step is to get a needs assessment. When we carry out an assessment of your care needs, we will also assess your independence and wellbeing.
Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)
This is a legal document that lets you appoint one or more people to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf if you cannot make your own decisions.

Benefits and allowances
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is available for those under 65 years of age. This is a government provided allowance for disability (non-means tested). It has 2 components, and both have 2 rates (basic and enhanced):
- First rate - Help for day to day living needs
- Second rate - Help for mobility support/needs.

Attendance Allowance for over 65s
You might qualify for an Attendance Allowance from the government). This helps with extra costs if you need someone to help look after you. The other benefits you get can increase if you get Attendance Allowance.

Blue badges, Council Tax and Welfare Rights
We have a team of people whose role is to maximise the income of residents of the Borough. We help people living with dementia and their families/carers by providing advice and guidance on a range of local and national benefits, such as blue badge, council tax and attendance allowance. Together in Dementia Everyday (Tide)
Tide is a collection of UK-wide carers who are working together to build a better future for those caring for people living with dementia. Tide run free, friendly and informative events for unpaid carers. You will find regular coffee mornings and peer support groups where you can meet up with other like-minded carers to discuss concerns around dementia care.

Find a care home
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) are an independent regulator for health and social care in England. They inspect all organisations that provide health and social care services. The results of a search on their directory will tell you the rating of the care home and a link to the latest inspection report if one is available.

The Royal British Legion's Admiral Nurse Service, in partnership with Dementia UK, provides specialist support to Armed Forces community members and their families living with dementia. Admiral Nurses offer expert guidance, practical solutions, and emotional support to help families cope with the challenges of dementia and improve their quality of life. Merseyside Dementia Friendly Radio (MDFR)
An independent, online radio station that is run in collaboration with and for the benefit of those who live in the Merseyside area whose lives are affected by dementia.
The 24/7 broadcast is carefully curated to serve as a reminiscence resource whilst also providing reality orientation, mood management, self-care reminders and signposting to local services/groups.
