An In Year School Admission is when you apply for a school place outside of the normal annual application window - which covers children starting school for the first time in Reception and children transferring from primary to secondary school in Year 7. Go to the 'Starting School' page for information about these year groups who will be starting school next September.
For all other children in other year groups who are moving from one school to another during the year there are two different types of In Year Admission within Sefton:
- House move to a new area and your child needs a new school place at a school in Sefton. Please see the 'In Year Admission Guide' below and complete an In Year admission application (form A1). Please note: currently the A1 form is only designed to be printed off from this page and completed by hand. The A1 form should also be used for children who are returning to school from elective home education.
- School Transfer moving your child from one school to another for reasons NOT related to a house move. Please see the 'School Transfers Guide' below and download the School Transfer form (form T1) by following the instructions shown.
The information below provides you with all the information needed for you to make an In Year Admission application. Please read this information BEFORE contacting the In Year Admissions Team.
NOTE: Sefton cannot process In Year admission requests for schools that are outside of Sefton. If you require In Year admission to a school that is outside of Sefton, please go to the relevant local authority website where that school is located, for information on their application process.

If you have recently arrived in Sefton or you are looking to move in to the Sefton area and you require a new school for your child(ren) please read the 'In Year Admissions Guide' before you submit the In Year admission application form (A1). Both documents can be found below. You must complete one application form for each child for whom you are seeking a school place. School Transfers for other reasons (not a house move)
If you wish your child to transfer from one school to a Sefton school during the school year, for reasons other than a house move, please read the School Transfers Guide before you complete the In Year School Transfer application form (T1). Both documents can be found below.
The T1 form is and editable PDF and should be saved to your device. Editable PDF forms can be filled in by using the Adobe Acrobat READER PDF app which you can download for free (many devices already have this app installed).
We recommend you use the tools on your device to rename the form to include your child’s name.
Once you have completed Section A you must send the whole form to the child’s current school for the school to complete Section B. You can send the completed PDF to a school via an email attachment, sharing a link through the cloud or printing the form to hand in a paper version.
