Norwood School Neighbourhood

Working in partnership with local councillors and Sustrans, Sefton Council have engaged with four local schools in Norwood and the wider school community. The four schools were:

  • Meols Cop High School
  • Holy Family Catholic Primary School
  • Norwood Primary School
  • Bishop David Sheppard Primary School

Aim of the scheme

Sefton Council and Sustrans engaged with the school and local community to:

  • identify how children travel to school in the area,
  • gain feedback on and validation of the proposals in the area,
  • identify what additional ideas, changes and solutions the school community would like to see
  • produce concept designs that consider the local context that has now been built into the Norwood Area Mitigation Scheme and the wider Southport Eastern Access scheme.

What we did

Through surveys, school workshops and pop-ups, the Council have used the insight provided by the whole school community to shape designs to create safer routes to school for walking, wheeling, and cycling.

32% of students in the Norwood School Neighbourhood live within the Norwood Area Mitigation Scheme project area. This work has helped shape and prioritise the junction improvements and crossing designs which form the Norwood Area Mitigation Scheme.
