Collections over Christmas and New Year for 2025

Each year, Sefton Council provides restricted services over the Christmas and New Year period. Most council buildings will be closed from 4pm from Wednesday 24th December, re-opening at 9am on Monday 5th January.

As a result, waste collection services will change. Like last year, the teams that are working will be prioritising grey bin and refuse sack collections.

- If your normal collection day is Monday 22nd December, this collection will remain the same day. - If your normal collection day is Tuesday 23rd December, this collection will take place on Monday 22nd December. - If your normal collection day is Wednesday 24th December, this collection will take place on Tuesday 23rd December. - If your normal collection day is Thursday 25th December, this collection will take place on Wednesday 24th December. - If your normal collection day is Friday 26th December, this collection will take place on Saturday 27th December. - If your normal collection day is Monday 29th December, this collection will remain the same day. - If your normal collection day is Tuesday 30th December, this collection will take place on Monday 29th December. - If your normal collection day is Wednesday 31st December, this collection will take place on Tuesday 30th December. - If your normal collection day is Thursday 1st January, this collection will take place on Wednesday 31st December. - If your normal collection day is Friday 2nd January, this collection will remain the same day. Normal service resumes week commencing Monday 5th January 2026.

Household Waste Recycling Centres

The Council is also reminding residents that Household Waste Recycling Centres are open from 8am to 5pm every day apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day for the free disposal of items and waste, including paper, card and plastics as well as non-recyclables.

Sefton’s Waste Recycling Centres are:

  • South Sefton Household Waste Recycling Centre, Irlam Road, Bootle L20 4AE
  • Sefton Meadows Household Waste Recycling Centre, Sefton Lane, Maghull L31 8BX
  • Southport Household Waste Recycling Centre, Foul Lane, Southport PR9 7RG
  • Formby Household Waste Recycling Centre, Altcar Road, Formby L37 8DL

Bulky Item and Clinical Waste collections

The final collection date for the Council's bulky items and clinical waste collections before Christmas will be Wednesday 24th December 2025. Collections will restart on Monday 5th January 2026.
