Entry to Schools September 2021: The Citizen Portal is now CLOSED for new Primary & Secondary Admission applications as the national closing dates have passed.

This page provides the main information for parents/carers about the processes for applying for a place at a school in Sefton.

The national closing dates for online applications for both Primary (entry into Reception) & Secondary School (entry into Year 7) for September 2021 admissions, have now passed. If you have not yet made an application, please email the School Admissions Team with your child's details to request a paper application form.

Starting Primary or Secondary School in September 2021

If you require a place for your child either starting school (Reception class) or starting Secondary school for the first time in September 2021, please see the relevant information below:

If you have read both information booklets and are ready to apply for your child’s school place you can apply on line via the citizen portal 


In Year School Admissions & School Transfers

For all other age groups, if you wish to transfer your child from their existing school to a Sefton School, or you have recently moved into the Sefton area, moved a significant distance within Sefton or are proposing to move into the area, and you require a new school place for your child(ren) during the academic year, these are known as 'In Year School Admissions'.

School Admission Appeals

If your child has been refused a place at a school by the Admission Authority (or via a Fair Access Panel decision), you have the right to submit an appeal against this decision, to an Independent Appeal Panel. Further details will also be provided to you in the decision letter sent to you when your application has been processed (In Year Admissions) or on the National Offer Days for Primary & Secondary School Admissions. Please go to the separate Admission Appeals page for further details. This includes information on how the Local Authority is currently conducting Admission Appeal Hearings due to the current Coronavirus Public Health Emergency.

Applying for year 10 admission (to Technical Colleges / Studio Schools or 14-16 provision)

If you are considering applying for a place at a 14-16 College, Studio School & U.T.C Please ensure that apply for admission directly to the school/college concerned.  More information can be found using the link below

Important information regarding Covid-19 Public Health Emergency

The Local Authority has implemented stringent social distancing measures to minimise the risk of spreading the coronavirus and to protect the health of staff and the public. For this reason, the School Admissions Team are currently not office based and are working from a number of locations, we would therefore prefer any contact to be via email if possible. Please include your child’s name and date of birth in any email.

Bootle Town Hall is currently closed to the public. Please do not attend the Town Hall for advice about School Admissions or Free School Meal eligibility. Please use email instead.

All emails will be responded to as quickly as possible, but it may take a little longer than usual for you to receive a response. 

If you do not have access to email and need to discuss a matter regarding School Admissions urgently, the team can be contacted on the telephone numbers shown in the table below. Please only call if it is absolutely necessary and you do not have access to email.

These phone numbers are available during normal office hours Mon-Fri excluding bank holidays. We are endeavouring to offer as normal a service as possible during these times. Calls may not be answered as they would normally if the team were office based. Please bear with us and thank you for your understanding during this challenging and unprecedented time.
