Sport & Leisure

This year’s annual Sefton Sports Awards, planned for June 2021, have unfortunately been cancelled as a result of the restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We had hoped to be in a position to celebrate all the sporting achievements of individuals, clubs and the community, but following the release of the Government Roadmap to ease restrictions, the event would take place prior to stage 4 of the roadmap and as such we are unable to do so again this year.

The 18th year of the event will now take place on Wednesday 15th June 2022 at Aintree Racecourse, where we look forward to celebrating the very best of the sporting offer across the borough with categories commending the outstanding talent and commitment of local athletes, coaches, volunteers, clubs and schools.

A spokesperson for Sefton council has stated ‘although it is disappointing not to be able to hold the Sports Awards this year, we are hopeful that by June 2022 we will have a full year of sport returning to our communities that we will be able to reflect on, allowing us to celebrate the achievements across the borough’.

Nominations for the awards will open in March 2022, and we anticipate once again receiving a strong list of applications.
