Free school meals

As a Sefton resident, you are eligible for free school meals if you receive any of the following benefits:

  • Income support
  • Income related employment and support allowance
  • Income based job seekers allowance
  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child tax credit only with an income of less than £16,190
  • Pension credit – Guarantee credit. 

If you think you meet any of the above eligibility criteria you can apply for free school meals by contacting our School Admissions and Pupil Support team on 0151 934 3456 or by completing and returning the Free School Meals Form below.

Applications received during the summer holidays will start receiving a free school meal on the first day of term, if your application is received after this date it will processed within the week. Free school meals are not normally backdated, however if you feel that you have exceptional circumstance please contact our School Admissions and Pupil Support team on 0151 934 3456.

Normally you only need to apply once. Your eligibility is reviewed on a 3 month basis. Your application will be renewed automatically during the summer holidays and we will write to you confirming this.

If your child attends a school outside Sefton (for example Liverpool or Knowsley) and transfers schools please contact our School Admissions and Pupil Support team on 0151 934 3456.

The free school meals can then be transferred to the new school as we will not be automatically informed of this. Failure to do so may mean you have to pay for school meals yourself. 

If you live in Sefton and your child moves school and you have indicated that you receive free school meals then your records will automatically be updated.

If you move into the Sefton area, please contact School Admissions and Pupil Support as soon as possible to make an application for free school meals. If you move authorities your free school meals will not automatically continue.

Please contact School Admissions and Pupil Support if you move address so our records can be kept updated.

The schools concerned will be sent confirmation that your child/ren is entitled to free school meals.
