Thornton Crematorium has been rated as ‘Excellent’ by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FCBA).

A recent inspection carried out by the Federation gave the ‘Excellent’ rating to all areas of the Crematorium’s services, including cremation  and burial processes, care for the bereaved and deceased and memorialisation.

In line with the Federation’s recommendations, the Council is working to modernise the facility further to improve the experience for the bereaved

Around 85% of the UK’s cremation authorities are members of the FCBA.

Sefton's Burial and Cremation service have signed up to the Federation’s Environmental Policy to demonstrate our commitment to protecting the environment and to show that the service is combating climate change.

David Clay, Sefton Council’s Burials and Cremations Manager, said: “We’re pleased with the Federation’s accreditation and it reflects a significant period of hard work and effort by our officers to continually improve the service we provide.

“Like many other local authorities across the UK, the burials and cremations service is not without its operational challenges and  we are working extremely hard to modernise the service so that we can be even more accommodating and supportive of bereaved families in Sefton.”
