First new bin collection in Bootle welcomed by residents

The first collection of the new grey wheelie bins in an area of Derby Ward in Bootle has been hailed a success, with most residents agreeing it will bring positive change to their streets.
Fifteen tons of general waste that otherwise would have been placed in bags on pavements was collected as an area of Derby Ward switched over to the standard collection model for Sefton.
Sacks have been a real issue
Cllr Peter Harvey, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleansing and Street Scene, said: “Black sacks on pavements have been a real issue, attracting seagulls, rats, cats and dogs and leaving the pavements strewn with rubbish. Those days are gone.
“This is also good for recycling - and it’s all part of Sefton’s commitment to clean and safe streets, not just here in Bootle but across the borough.”
Residents said they had already noticed the difference, they commented:
“It’s brilliant, no more ripped bags left on the pavement.”
“Before, the seagulls would be fighting over the rubbish, now it’s going to be so much better and tidier.”
“The whole street feels less cluttered and cleaner, especially with less rubbish blowing about.”
