Update on Maritime Corridor works for motorists

16 June 2025 2min read

As works on Maritime Corridor Phase 1 progresses, the next phase of the works on Dunnings Bridge Road will see from Atlantic Park Drive junction to Netherton Way/Bridle Road junction reduced to a single lane. This is for road widening. Whilst Dunnings Bridge Road remains open, motorists are advised to expect delays to journey times and plan accordingly. The reduction to a single lane is expected to be from 30th June for approximately four weeks until 29th July.

Reducing the road to one westbound lane on Dunnings Bridge Road presents the best opportunity to minimise the length of time on site. This will allow for a more efficient and faster way of working across a large site without having to accommodate a live carriageway. Visit our website to find the latest pictures and updates.

Aim of the scheme

The project’s aim is to help make it easier to travel sustainably, affordably, quickly and safely, with adding a new segregated cycleway and footway and improved junctions and crossings.

The improvements will make it easier and safer for people without a car to walk and cycle in the area, whilst speeding up journey times for those travelling by car or public transport.

A Sefton Council spokesperson said:

“When finished, the Maritime Corridor will also promote and enable growth in the area, bring more opportunities to local residents and businesses, as well as improving the look of public space along the route.

“The works will make it feel safer and easier for people to walk and cycle and connect residents to school, nurseries, businesses and leisure facilities. The works are part of creating infrastructure that helps people shift to active travel and decarbonises the transport network, helping us to achieve net zero by 2030.”
