Town Halls to Shine Blue for Care Leavers Month

24 November 2025 3min read

This November marks Care Leavers Month, a national campaign dedicated to celebrating and supporting care-experienced young people across the UK. The month-long initiative aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by care leavers and highlight the support available to help them thrive.

As part of the celebrations, both Southport and Bootle Town Hall will be lit up in blue on Monday 24th November to show solidarity with care leavers and the wider care-experienced community. The striking display will serve as a visual reminder of the commitment to improving opportunities and outcomes for care experienced young people.

Inclusive opportunities

Care Leavers Month provides an opportunity for local authorities, partners, and communities to come together and recognise the resilience and achievements of care experienced young people. It also encourages conversations about how we can all play a role in creating a more inclusive and supportive environment.

Events and activities

Throughout the month, the Council’s Care Experienced team have been hosting and attending a range of events including workshops and drop-in sessions on employment, training and education, accommodation support, and sport activities.

Cllr Diane Roscoe, Cabinet Member for Schools, Children and Families said:

“Care Leavers Month is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate how amazing our care experienced young people are in Sefton and reflect on the work we do to support them and how we can do more.

“Lighting Bootle and Southport Town Halls blue is a simple but powerful way to show care leavers that they are valued and supported.

“Care experienced people face increased challenges and even discrimination across education, employment, housing and are more likely to struggle with mental health issues and that’s why delivering support opportunities is so vital.

“I am proud of the work we are doing to support these brilliant young people but we are always striving to improve. We want children and young people to have high aspirations and know that people believe in them to achieve their dreams.”
