Sefton residents are being encouraged to get involved in a major international sporting event, as there’s still time to apply to volunteer at The 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, Southport.
Playing a key role in welcoming thousands of visitors
Friendly and enthusiastic volunteers are needed to join the Open Host Team during the event, taking place from 12th to 19th July 2026. Volunteers will play a key role in welcoming thousands of visitors and helping to create a warm, positive and memorable experience throughout the championship week.
Open Hosts are vital in supporting visitors by offering directions, sharing local knowledge and helping ensure the smooth flow of people around key locations.
Volunteer roles will be based at off‑course sites, including transport hubs, Park & Ride locations, walking routes and course access points.
What volunteers will do:
- Welcome visitors and spectators
- Provide directions and helpful information
- Share local and event‑related knowledge
- Support visitor movement at transport hubs and entry points
- Act as a friendly, visible and reassuring presence
To apply, you must:
- Be aged 18 or over
- Be friendly, approachable and confident when speaking to the public
- Be available between the 12th and 19th July 2026
- Be able to travel to an assigned location
- Be willing to complete pre‑event training
Shifts are up to six hours.
