Sefton Council Waste Collection Team Praised for Kindness and Dedication

01 May 2025 2min read

Three of Sefton Council’s waste collection workers, including Ahmed Bozkurt and Mick Mathews, have been praised for their exceptional work.

Above and beyond

Feedback has shown how they have gone above and beyond in their service to the community of Buttermere Gardens in Crosby.

A local resident recently shared her heartfelt praise for the team, highlighting their ongoing kindness towards her young daughters, who eagerly look forward to the bin collection every Wednesday.

From the age of six months, her eldest daughter would wave from the window, and as she has grown older, she excitedly waits in the driveway to greet the team.

Highlight of her week

Now, at four years old, she still considers "seeing the bin men" the highlight of her week. This enthusiasm is shared with her two-year-old sister.

Week after week, they have taken the time to acknowledge the children with waves, greetings, and even flashing the bin lorry lights, brightening up to their mornings.

An asset to Sefton

The resident expressed her gratitude, by saying:
"These three men are kind, polite, considerate, respectful, and an asset to Sefton Council. They consistently go the extra mile to brighten our day, and for this, I am extremely grateful. We are moving house and will genuinely miss our lovely binmen!"

Unique collection

The busy team work on the hard-to-reach wagon. This vehicle provides a unique collection, to residents in the south of the Borough, for waste that can’t be accessed by the larger vehicles.

The team behind the hard-to-reach round

Ahmed Bozkurt transitioned to Sefton Council in 2016 as part of the recycling service and later joined the team on the hard-to-reach vehicle, providing excellent service alongside his colleagues.

Mick Mathews, the newest team member, joined in January 2024. He brought his experience from Sefton’s Street Cleansing before becoming a loader on the hard-to-reach round.

Upon hearing about the family’s upcoming move, the crew said:
"We are sad to hear that the family is relocating. Seeing the children wave and smile each week made our job more rewarding. We will truly miss them!"

Well done to them for your outstanding service and for making a lasting impact on the community.
