Quiet pride

There was a moment of quiet pride across Sefton Council’s Burials and Cremations team as they were awarded Gold Standard Accreditation from the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM).

Highest accolade

The ICCM aims to raise standards for bereaved people through the promotion of best practice, guidance, accredited training and education. A Gold Standard Accreditation from this national body is one of the highest accolades in the sector.

Recognition isn't the goal

Cllr Peter Harvey, Sefton Council Cabinet member who has responsibility for Burials and Cremations said:
For our dedicated team, working behind the scenes in bereavement services, recognition isn’t the goal. The priority is always the people experiencing grief and remembering their loved ones and friends.

“But this award is a powerful acknowledgment of the excellent work the team are doing.

“Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Supporting the community through loss

The ICCM Gold award reflects the exceptional standards Sefton has set in how it supports the community through loss. From sensitive and qualified staff to thoughtful environmental practices, every element of the service was evaluated, and Sefton met or exceeded all expectations.

Standout qualities

Among the standout qualities highlighted for the Sefton team’s award were:

‘Strong community engagement, with services that respect and reflect the religious, cultural, and individual needs of every person who uses them.’

‘An emphasis on sustainability, including participation in a national metal recycling scheme from cremations that not only protects the environment but also raises money for charities.’

Incredibly proud

Dave Clay MICCM Dip, Burials and Cremations Manager, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to receive this Gold Standard Accreditation from the ICCM. It reflects the hard work, compassion, and professionalism of our whole team.

“Supporting people during one of the most difficult times in their lives is a great responsibility, and we’re committed to providing services that are respectful, inclusive, and continually improving. This recognition means a great deal to all of us.”
