Sefton Celebrates Foster Care Fortnight 2025: Celebrating the Power of Relationships

13 May 2025 4min read

In Sefton, strong, trusting relationships between foster carers and children are transforming lives every day. For children and young people in care, these bonds can be life-changing, offering stability, belonging, and the chance to thrive.

This May, as part of Foster Care Fortnight 2025, the UK’s largest fostering awareness campaign, Sefton Council’s Fostering Service is shining a spotlight on “The Power of Relationships”.  Running from 12–25 May, this year’s theme celebrates the incredible bonds formed between foster carers and the children they care for, the support of social workers and teachers, and the vital roles played by extended networks. These relationships form a strong foundation that helps children grow in confidence and resilience.

Making A Difference

Across Sefton, foster carers are making a profound difference, opening their hearts and homes to children and young people in need. They offer more than just shelter; they provide emotional security, guidance, and consistent care. Whether it’s through a comforting bedtime story, encouragement to follow a dream, or simply being a reliable presence, these everyday moments have the power to shape lives.

Councillor Diane Roscoe, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families said:
“Fostering is more than offering a home, it’s about creating relationships that heal, support, and inspire. A strong, consistent connection can be the golden thread that helps a child feel safe, valued, and ready to embrace their future.

As a Council, we proudly celebrate the incredible impact our foster carers make. While their work deserves recognition every day, Foster Care Fortnight gives us a special opportunity to highlight the vital role they play in making Sefton a place where every child can feel secure and succeed.

If you’ve ever considered fostering, now is the time to get in touch. With high-level support and training available, you can rely on our team to be with you every step of the way.”

Justine who’s been fostering with Sefton for 2 years shared:

“Fostering has changed my life. When a child has had a demanding day, filled with big emotions their behaviour can be tough, you give them everything you’ve got, even when it feels like it’s not enough. Then, at bedtime, they call your name and say, ‘I love you so much’. In that moment, you’re reminded that all the effort, love, and trying, it’s all for the right reasons, even when you can’t always see it, you’re making a difference.
