Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, recently joined Sovini Construction’s Operations Director James Flannery at the former Rawson Road School site in Seaforth, which represents the latest step in the Sefton 2030 partnership.

Social and affordable homes for local people

Through Sefton 2030, The Sovini Group and Sefton Council plan to deliver 1,000 new social and affordable homes for local people by the end of the decade. The social housing will be allocated through Property Pool Plus to local people in housing need.

Rawson Road is one of five initial sites agreed for development as part of the initiative.

As well as creating much-needed new homes, Sefton 2030 partnership is helping to create opportunities for local people through community engagement, skills development and employment initiatives.

Opportunities

As part of this commitment, James Flannery recently visited South Sefton Adult Education College to speak with construction students about the opportunities that Sefton 2030 will create by bringing previously brownfield land back into use.

Those opportunities include new employment opportunities, apprenticeships, work placements and skills development programmes that can help local residents progress to high-quality jobs and long-term career pathways.

Students will help shape the future

After the visit, James Flannery said: “It was fantastic to visit South Sefton Adult Education College and meet students who will help shape the future of the construction industry here in Sefton.

“Sefton 2030 is delivering much more than new homes; it is helping to inspire the next generation and showcase the wide range of opportunities available within the construction sector.

“By working with local contractors, suppliers and businesses, we’re ensuring the investment generated through Sefton 2030 supports the local economy and delivers lasting benefits for communities across the borough.”

Macy Loasby, Construction Programme Coordinator at South Sefton Adult Education Centre, said: “Our students were inspired to hear about James’ career journey from apprentice to his current role at Sovini Construction and were particularly interested to hear about the Sefton 2030 partnership, the proposals for building new homes in the area and the possible employment opportunities that may be open to them in the future.”
