A new book celebrating the legacy of Bootle’s iconic Quadrant Park nightclub will launch at Rough Trade Liverpool on Tuesday 7th October, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
The launch event will feature readings, discussions, and the opportunity to purchase the book before its wider release.
Titled Queue Up And Dance, the book is the culmination of a year-long community archive project that brought together original clubgoers, DJs, and young people from Bootle to preserve the story of the UK’s first legal all-night rave.
Compiled by lead artist Dave Evans, the book features interviews with those who danced at The Quad in its heyday, as well as the DJs who helped shape the scene. It includes a foreword by Evans, an introduction by Emma Warren, author of Dance Your Way Home, and an afterword by Melissa Kains, who led the youth engagement strand of the project.
“Working on this project to archive material relating to Quadrant Park has been a real privilege,” said Dave Evans. “The material that has been contributed really captures the energy of the club and it's great to know it will be safe and accessible for the future with Sefton Libraries. The Quad community has been so generous and it's given me a real insight into how pivotal that time and place was in so many people's lives.”
Though Quadrant Park was short-lived—gaining popularity in 1990 and closing in early 1992—it played a pivotal role in the evolution of club culture in the North West and beyond. Demolished in 1992, the site now bears no trace of its rich history, making this project a vital act of cultural preservation.
Queue Up And Dance is a collaboration between Sefton Libraries, Rule of Threes Arts, and lead artists Dave Evans and Melissa Kains. It builds on conversations with original Quadrant Park DJs Mike Knowler and Andy Carroll, and the vibrant online Quadrant Park Reunions community on Facebook.
