An Open Day at Thornton Garden of Rest Crematorium will provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about a service dedicated to providing families with compassionate and professional support. 

Sefton Council’s Bereavement Services team has warmly invited all to come to the event, which will run from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 26 September.

What you can expect

Visitors will have the chance to take a guided tour of the crematorium and get to know the Bereavement Services staff who help families say goodbye to their loved ones with dignity and respect. 

Staff members will also be on hand to answer questions about the crematorium, giving a full and transparent look at how the cremation process works. 

And there will be a chance to get plenty of details about the range of memorial options and services available that help families to plan a bespoke funeral that meets their needs. 

For example, some may wish to consider direct cremations and why they’re considered a dignified yet affordable alternative to a traditional service.

Learning opportunities

Those interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how the service follows legal and environmental standards will also find out everything they need to know at the Open Day. 

Additionally, funeral directors Dignity and celebrant service Good Funeral Company will be on site as examples of the different options that are available. 

Cllr Peter Harvey, Sefton Council Cabinet Member who oversees Bereavement Services, said: “I encourage everyone to come along to the Open Day, which promises to be an informal and welcoming environment for people to find out more about the support offered at Thornton Garden of Rest. 

“For many people, deciding where they or a loved one will be laid to rest is an important decision, while others might be looking for reassurance that a farewell will be handled with professionalism and care. 

“This Open Day offers a great opportunity for all those people to have their questions answered and see what our award-winning team can do to help them during what can be a difficult time.”
