New Health and Wellbeing Strategy, 'Sefton Well Together' approved

26 June 2026 3 min read

At their meeting on Thursday 25th June, Sefton Council’s cabinet approved a new plan to improve the lives of people across the Borough over the next five years.

Sefton Well Together

Sefton’s new Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy for 2026–2031, entitled Sefton Well Together, sets out how local partners will work together to help people live healthier, happier lives. Sefton Well Together will guide work on health and wellbeing. It focuses on early help, prevention and building strong communities so people can stay well for longer.

The new Strategy focuses on the things that matter most to local people. This includes supporting children and families, helping people find good jobs and learning opportunities, and improving housing, the environment and local communities. It also aims to reduce unfair differences in health and make sure everyone has an equal chance to be well, no matter who they are or where they live.

Lived experiences represented

Sefton Well Together has been shaped by local people, organisations and partners from across Sefton. This involved speaking to a wide range of people across Sefton to ensure the lived experiences of different communities are represented.

Three months were spent listening, through community workshops and online focus groups. And partners came together for a multi-agency workshop to reflect on what we had heard, look at the evidence, and agree the main themes and priorities that matter most to local people

Leaders have welcomed the strategy and the positive impact it will have on all aspects of people’s lives. By bringing organisations together, it will help create stronger communities, better opportunities and healthier places to live.

Ensuring progress is being made

Welcoming the new Strategy at today’s Cabinet meeting, Sefton Council’s Cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health, Cllr Ian Moncur, said:“We ought to place on the record our thanks to all those who have been involved in so much hard work involved in so much hard work pulling together this important Strategy.

“We do have ways of assessing progress of the Strategy’s implementation over the next five years including a framework that will enable the Health and Wellbeing Board to ensure that progress is being made at the right pace.”

Shared promise

Councillor Joanne Williams, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: Sefton Well Together is a shared promise to make Sefton a fairer, healthier and more inclusive place for everyone.

It is about making sure everyone has the chance to live a healthy and happy life. It brings people and organisations together to focus on what really matters – from supporting families and improving homes to creating better opportunities for the future.

“We are proud to support this strategy and the difference it will make to our communities.”
