01 July 2026 3 min read

A new volunteer opportunity is now open in Sefton for someone who wants to help support unpaid carers and make a real difference in the community.

Supported and listened to

Sefton Council and its partners are looking for a Chair to lead the All Age Unpaid Carers Strategic Partnership Board. This important role will helps guide work to make sure unpaid carers of all ages in Sefton are supported and listened to.

The person who takes on the role will lead Board meetings and help organisations work together to deliver the All Age Carers Strategy for 2025 to 2028.

Healthy, balanced lives

The All Age Carers Strategy sets out how support for carers will be improved over the next few years. It focuses on making sure carers feel recognised, get the help they need and can live healthy, balanced lives alongside their caring roles.

The Strategy also aims to bring services together so that carers do not feel alone and can easily find support, advice and opportunities. A key part of the plan is making sure carers’ voices are heard clearly and help shape decisions about services in Sefton.

Strong voice

The new Chair of the All Age Unpaid Carers Strategic Partnership Board will act as a strong voice for carers, helping share their experiences and making sure the Board stays focused on what matters most. They will support partners to show the progress being made and to deliver real improvements through the Strategy Action Plan.

The role involves leading four Board meetings a year. This means preparation for these meetings and reading reports in advance. The Chair will help meetings run smoothly and make sure everyone has the chance to take part and share their views.

It is a voluntary role and is expected to take around 20 to 25 hours a year, offering a flexible way to contribute to the community. Reasonable expenses will be covered.

Experience as an unpaid carer

The successful applicant is likely to be someone with experience at Board level, as a trustee or in a senior role. It is also important that they have experience as an unpaid carer, either now or in the past. This will make sure they understand the challenges carers face and can speak up on their behalf.

Anyone who is interested can request an application form by emailing help@carers.sefton.gov.uk .

Applications must be submitted by Friday 17th July 2026 Interviews will take place online later in the month.
