LCR Taxi Grant

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority confirmed on Monday 8th February 2021 that a further £2m fund had been established to enable its six local authorities to contribute to the costs of taxi licences, for taxi driver’s severely impacted by COVID-19.

Established in October last year, the first round of the fund enabled the six local authorities to provide £100 each towards the cost of the taxi licence for taxi drivers resident in the Liverpool City Region.

The Leaders and Acting Mayor of the City Region’s six local authorities and the Metro Mayor have now agreed to increase that fund to a maximum of £3.5 million.

The fund will enable all of the city region’s local authorities to top up schemes which benefit local taxi drivers in addition to what is available to them through national support schemes, such as SEISS (the Government’s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme).

Guidance and eligibility

We are pleased to confirm the scheme guidance and eligibility criteria for the second round of Taxi Grant funding. Drivers who were licensed with Sefton on 23rd March 2020 (when the first lockdown was announced) and live in one of the six local authorities that make up the Liverpool City Region (Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helen’s, Sefton and Halton) will be contacted about receiving their grant.

On Monday 1st March  2021, we will be issuing letters to all drivers who qualified for the £100 taxi grant from the first round of funding. If you receive a letter, we will automatically pay a further £200 into your nominated bank account week commencing 29th March 2021.

Please note: You only need to respond to the letter if the details of your nominated bank account from Round One of the funding have changed.

For all drivers who failed to apply for the grant in Round One of the funding, we will be contacting you separately about the grant scheme in 3-4 weeks. We have details of your records so there is no need to contact us in the meantime.

We expect to be very busy dealing with this scheme and will be unable to respond to individual telephone calls or enquiries so your patience will be greatly appreciated.
