Independent Visiting and Advocacy Service

Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and young people?

Sefton Council are currently recruiting for Independent Visitors and Advocates to work with Looked after Children and Young People.

An Independent Visitor is a volunteer who befriends a child or young person and helps them to develop meaningful, long term relationships with adults. Independent Visitors usually visit a child or young person on a monthly basis and engage them in fun activities that build their confidence and self-esteem whilst acting as a positive adult 'role model' for the young person.

Advocates are specially trained volunteers who help young people to speak up for themselves and get their views and feelings heard. Looked After children sometimes need this support when decisions are being made about their lives by other professionals. If you are good at listening, negotiating and communication we would love to hear from you.

No formal qualifications are required for these roles, just a keen interest in working with Children and Young People. All volunteers will be given initial training and receive ongoing support and guidance.

Becoming an Independent Visitor or Advocate can open up new opportunities for employment and is a chance to meet other volunteers, share new experiences and gain new skills.
