Borough Of Culture 2020

Sefton is delighted to be chosen as Borough of Culture for 2020.

The Borough of Culture (BoC) title is awarded by the Liverpool City Region’s Combined Authority to one of its six local authorities (Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral) on a rotating, annual basis.

Wirral had the honour for 2019 with Sefton taking the title for 2020.

The title awards a £200,000 funding package to support cultural events through the year, delivered as part of the city region’s pioneering 1% for Culture programme.

The focus of Sefton’s programme will be on stories – about us, by us, and for us…all of us!

It will embed the theme of ‘Myths and Realities’.

After engaging with our communities and partners to see what they would like to see from the 2020 programme, we found that there were two key themes that stood out: local history and the environment.

The first part of 2020 will focus much on storytelling, relating to local heritage and recognising the nature of history and stories over time. The second half of the year will focus on the environmental theme and will hopefully coincide with the UN Climate Change Summit.

Please support us throughout 2020 when Sefton gets to showcase itself building on new, existing and community based events.
