Sefton’s Year of Friendship 2019

As friendship is proven to have a positive impact on people’s health and wellbeing, 2019 will be dedicated to Year of Friendship to tackle loneliness and isolation.

Over recent years there has been an increase in loneliness within certain groups across Sefton, which has a detrimental impact on people’s health and well-being.

According to national research, the effect of loneliness and isolation can be as harmful to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, and is more damaging than obesity. It is closely associated with depression, suicide risk, impact on quality of life and can result in more visits to GPs and admissions to hospital.

Friendship Bracelets

Throughout the year we will be asking people to join us in making friendship bracelets to celebrate everything that the Year of Friendship means to us.

If you, or a group or organisation you’re involved in, would like to get involved in this project please contact communications@sefton.gov.uk and we can provide you with materials and further information.

Once the bracelets have been made, we would like to collect them so that we can use them as part of a special project towards the end of the year. Information about drop off points will soon be available.
