All disabled children are deemed 'children in need' and are entitled to an assessment by a Social Worker. Family Support Services are then provided according to priority.
Children with severe disabilities (learning, physical, medical conditions, autism etc) and their families receive a range of short break services, home and community bases, or overnight stays from home.
All children have a plan reviewed at three to six month intervals. Most families are allocated a Social Worker to oversee their service provision; less complex cases are monitored within the Family Support reviewing system.
Wherever possible inclusive services are promoted and developed. Planning and Service Delivery is in partnership with Childrens Services, Health, Leisure Services and Voluntary organisations. Parents are sitting member of all Sefton's planning groups for disabled children.
Parents are financially assessed for services received in keeping with Council
A children with disabilities team is based at Magdalen House, Trinity Road, Bootle. The team work with children who have permanent and significant disabilities. They offer a variety of services including family based shared care schemes, summer play scheme, be-friending / enabling scheme. Individual packages of care and support are developed to enable children to remain living in their family and community. The team is also linked to Sefton Aiming High Service and Springbrook, which is a residential unit providing short stays for children with disabilities
