Romesh Ranganathan - The Cynic's Mixtape

Southport Theatre at the Waterfront, The Promenade, Southport, PR9 0DZ
Romesh is back with a brand new show ‘The Cynic’s Mixtape’, his most brutally honest show yet. Fresh from the ‘Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan’, ‘A League Of Their Own’ and ‘Judge Romesh’, he's putting showbiz aside to deliver a carefully curated selection of all the things he has found unacceptable since the last tour, including why trying to save the environment is a scam, why none of us are truly free, and his suspicion that his wife is using gluten intolerance to avoid sleeping with him. There will be a support act prior to Romesh's appearance for 20 mins. Parental Guidance: likely to be swearing and adult content.

A friendship blossoms between a kind young Italian peasant and the Marchesa’s son, who plot a fake kidnapping. Rich versus poor, city versus rural, this is a beautiful and at times mystical comment on hierarchy and subservience.

BILL AND BOB: The Anfield Revolutionaries

The compelling story of how Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley joined forces to transform Liverpool FC and English football comes to The Atkinson stage to mark the 60th anniversary of Shankly’s appointment as manager in December 1959.

With Kop heroes Ian St John, Ian Callaghan, Chris Lawler and Phil Neal live on stage, Bill And Bob:The Anfield Revolutionaries charts Shankly’s arrival at a club trapped in Second Division mediocrity and how he inspired a glorious revival of Liverpool fortunes.

The charismatic Scot, assisted by coach and physio Paisley, guided Liverpool to promotion, three League titles, two FA Cup triumphs – ending the club’s 73-year wait for the trophy in 1965 – a UEFA Cup success and unbroken qualification for European football.

Christmas Gothic

Following the sell-out performance in 2017, Christmas Gothic returns to The Atkinson! From the award-winning creators of Jane Eyre: An Autobiography, Orlando, The Time Machine, Female Gothic, and Austen’s Women.

Christmas: a time to remember the past, celebrate the present, and look to the future; a time of feasts and festivities; of holly and mistletoe; a time of visits and visitations. A time of ghosts.

Come in from the cold and enter into the Christmas spirit as a dark and spectral woman tells haunting tales of the festive season, lighting a candle to the frailties of human nature and illuminating the cold and chilling depths of the bleak, wintry dark…

Dyad Productions resurrects a Victorian tradition by presenting three seasonal tales of terror to scintillate the gooseflesh for dark Christmas nights.

Adapted and performed by Rebecca Vaughan. Directed by Elton Townend Jones.

The Body Snatcher

The Body Snatcher is an unnerving experience inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s hair-raising horror: live action, music and storytelling combine in a tale of mystery, morality, and science unhinged.

Something is rotten in the town of Inglenook.

Sour milk, unread post, dogs howling day and night, the locals are vanishing…seemingly into thin air.

As fear haunts the remaining few, a young scientist is disturbed by a noise underground.

It’s the sound of terror, and it’s getting louder.

No body is safe…

Jimmy’s brand new show contains jokes about all kinds of terrible things. Terrible things that might have affected you or people you know and love. But they’re just jokes - they are not the terrible things. Having political correctness at a comedy show is like having health and safety at a rodeo. Now you’ve been warned, buy a ticket.

Arthur Strong: Is There Anybody Out There?

As well as being the all-round entertainer we all know and love from the telly, Count Arthur Strong is also a lifelong fan of astronomy, since having been given a microscope, or whatever it is they use, for Christmas when he was a small precocious baby. In fact, it’s said the ?rst word he spoke was ‘Uranus’.

In this, his brand-new show, he seamlessly combines the very best showbiz entertainment you’ll currently ?nd, in the world (possibly?) as he wrestles with some of the big questions that other all-round entertainers shy away from. Such as:

Are we alone in the universe?
Is there life on Mars bars?
2lbs of potatoes.
Packet of ginger nuts.
Don’t lose this shopping list.

Crooners

This modern world does not always seem the place for men of style and vigour. Men with a penchant for sentiment, romance and charm. Men who own tap shoes.

Crooners follows the story of three very British gentlemen who exhume the characteristics of a crooner; suave, self-assured, stylish, as they defend the role of a crooner in our modern world. By the very same nature, it is not always obvious that these characteristics are adopted quite so well by the quintessentially British. Cue a splendiferous injection of British comedy. Tongue firmly in cheek. And an Outrageous injection of Big Band Swing.

One of the most exciting collaborations in folk music, June Tabor & Oysterband, resumes this autumn for a major tour. With separate distinguished careers to pursue, their appearances together are necessarily rare, so this is a must-see opportunity to catch them live.

Songs from their seminal 1990 album ‘Freedom & Rain’ and their multi-award-winning 2011 follow-up ‘Ragged Kingdom’ will of course be featured, plus exciting new material.
