Why Look at Animals?

This exhibition looks at our relationship with animals. John Berger argued in his 1977 essay Why Look At Animals?, that humanity has lost its contact with nature since moving into town and cities. We now tend to think of animals only as Zoo creatures, pets or food source.

Artists from the early Victorian period to the present day have been aware of this change in perception and this exhibition presents a wide range of responses.

Comedy Club 4 Kids!

Share

Since 2005, the Comedy Club 4 Kids has been getting the best stand-ups and sketch acts from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children (aged 6+) and their families… but without the rude bits!

A decade later, the company has expanded from one London residency to being countrywide, running shows and workshops all over the UK from Peebles to Portsmouth, even producing a book on how to write and perform stand-up.

The show is family friendly, but without any patronising idiocy. In fact, it’s just like a normal comedy club, but it’s on in the day, kids are allowed in, and thus there is a higher than usual chance of heckles like “why is that your face!?”

“A highlight for children in recent years, giving them a taste of some of the biggest names in comedy… with the fun, rowdy feel of a real comedy club” – The Guardian

“The perfect way to entertain the whole family.” – Three Weeks

“Comedy Club 4 Kids has stand-up sets from grown-up, high-quality acts who perform their usual sets, just without the swearing or rude bits.” – The Independent

Juan Martín Arte Flamenco Puro

Juan Martín, a truly awe-inspiring guitarist, composer and all encompassing musician returns to tour the UK with a new flamenco programme of music, song and dance direct from Spain.

Martín’s latest show features the 18 year old flamenco dance star from Cádiz, Raquel Gonzalez and the extraordinary singer Antonio Aparecida. Gonzalez’s tremendous footwork, the passion of Aparecida’s voice and the unmistakable poetry and emotion of one of the world’s leading guitarists make for a performance not to be missed.

This is at the vanguard of modern flamenco and brings together ‘the cream of Spain’s dancers’ (The Times) with the intensity and emotion of one of the world’s finest guitarists. ‘He has a terrifyingly good technique and an absolute dominance of the guitar, filling the concert hall with crystalline clarity’. El Mundo

“Juan Martín reminded us of the power and beauty of flamenco pure and simple. No meretricious stage tricks, just one long enthralling sequence of instrumental solos, songs and dances by the brilliant troupe” 5 stars – The Independant

“Juan Martín’s flamenco rhythm energy and passion will pin you to the wall” – Folk Roots
