Friends of parks and garden volunteers

Many parks in Sefton have ‘friends of parks’ groups, where local people can have a say, and help in the management and development of their local park.

Friends of parks are voluntary groups of local residents, workers or visitors who are willing to spend some of their time, energy and effort in caring for and improving their local park or green space.

The group usually represents a wide a range of park users, for example different age groups and abilities, users of the various facilities in the parks, and local residents, community group representatives and local businesses.

  • Holding regular meetings to discuss the park and any issues which are affecting it
  • Carrying out practical conservation or management tasks such as clean-ups, community planting projects, and working with Sefton’s Park Rangers
  • Organising events to attract more visitors
  • Working with the Council to draw up plans to improve the park, and raising funds for projects.

There are a number of successful garden volunteers groups running across the borough now, many lead by the local community.

These sessions provide many health benefits where experienced leaders guide you through a range of practical projects, giving you the opportunity to tackle physical jobs in the outdoors – improving your strength and stamina, boosting your practical skills and confidence and benefiting your local green spaces.

If you are interested in joining or setting up a friends of group contact the People in Parks Team on 0151 934 2345.
