Reading Well promotes the benefits of reading for health and well being.
The scheme is endorsed by health professionals and supported by public libraries. Currently there are two self-help lists available.
The Reading Well Books on Prescription reading list means that you can self-refer a title that can help you. Likewise, your GP or other health professionals can also refer you to the list and recommend books that they feel will help and support you.
There is evidence from the National Institute for Care and Excellence (NICE) that self-help reading can help people with common mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression.
Local libraries are a safe, trusted and non-stigmatised place to go for help with, and information about, health problems.
