Council Tax

The key part of the budget is the increase in council tax bills for the 2018-19 financial year by 5.99% The increase is to meet the continuing demands of funding children's and adult social care services, while tackling financial pressures caused by the Government's ongoing austerity programme. Find out more about these increases at the MySefton news site.

Your Council Tax demand (bill)

There is only one Council Tax demand (bill) for each property, and the person liable for payment will generally be the resident who has the greatest legal interest. If there is no-one living in the property then the owner of the property will be liable for payment, subject to any discount in the amount payable.

Please tell us about any changes that may affect your Council Tax account, such as when moving house, or when someone leaves or joins your household.

You must also tell us if your income changes when you are receiving help through the Council Tax Reduction Scheme (previously called Council Tax Benefit).

If you have difficulty understanding your Council Tax Bill, this short video will help you to understand.
