InvestSefton and the North West Cyber Resilience Centre are holding two free Cyber Security workshops for eligible businesses in the Borough.

Taking place in the morning, 10am- 12pm on Wednesday 20th September at The Lake House Waterloo, and repeated on Thursday 21st Sept at Formby Hall, the events are designed to enhance their cyber resilience knowledge and skills.

Staying safe

Both events will include workshops with live demonstrations and real-world examples that cover a range of subjects including phishing, password security, networks, malware and social media. There will also be advice on training staff about security awareness and an ‘Ask the cyber expert’ Q&A sessions.

These events are for Sefton businesses and are free but any companies attending need to sign up to the Merseyside Cyber Security Programme beforehand. Details www.nwcrc.co.uk/merseyside.

Protection

The Police-funded Merseyside Cyber Security Programme uses assets seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act to support businesses to help protect them from online crime. Membership includes security awareness training for up to five staff, access to the latest cybersecurity policy and procedure templates and a 1-2-1 consultation lasting up to one hour.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills said: “Cybercrime affects almost 1/3 of businesses monthly, with the average cyber-attack costing each business over £15,000.

“The lost revenue, expensive repairs and reputational damage resulting from a cyber-attack can be devastating for any business, which is why we the Council want to help Sefton businesses protect themselves through the InvestSefton events.”

Take part

To book a place, Seton businesses should email investsefton@sefton.gov.uk or call Sharon or Dom on 0151 934 3452.

Cllr Atkinson added: “Places at these events are limited to 300 on a first-come, first-served basis so I would advise any company wanting to protect itself from attack to book right away.”

As well as the Cyber Security workshops, there will also be the chance for delegates to network with other Sefton businesses, and learn about funded business support, skills development, LCR Connect and more.
