Council shares next steps for Ainsdale-on-Sea

As well as being a popular spot for beach lovers, Ainsdale-on-Sea is an important asset that the Council is committed to developing and protecting for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

Gateway vision

Following conversations with residents, community groups and previous wider consultation, the Council announced earlier this year that it would be looking to develop an updated vision for the coastal gateway in response to the feedback received.

Feasibility Study

As part of this process, the Council have appointed a specialist planning and development consultancy to undertake a feasibility study for the coastal gateway. The consultant, Turley, will look at all assets at the site, including The Sands, Toad Hall, Council operational bases, and options for their development.

The feasibility study will also carefully consider the nature conservation importance of Ainsdale-on-Sea, as well as travel and parking facilities, and the future of existing buildings. Previous public consultation along with further input from local stakeholders will inform the document.

The vision document, which will be available in early 2024, will enable the Council to determine realistic and deliverable options for the gateway and fulfil the wider vision for Ainsdale.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “Ainsdale-on-Sea is recognised as one of the key access points to the coast and there are many exciting possibilities being explored that could form part of the longer-term rejuvenation of the area.

“The study being undertaken will confirm the Council can deliver works that reflect the wants and needs of local people and visitors while protecting the special ecological landscape.”

Toilet refurbishment

Furthermore, the Council has submitted planning permission for the toilet refurbishment works at the gateway which includes the installation of accessible Changing Places facility. Works are due to begin soon as the contractor is to be appointed imminently.
