Bamboo is everywhere, but on Saturday 26th August, there is going to be an awful lot of it at Kings Gardens in Southport.

Free, family-friendly event

Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere is a free family-friendly outdoor event, lasting from 11am to 4pm featuring giant bamboo structures, playful performances, music, circus workshops & crafting. It takes place in the Community Gardens at the corner of the Esplanade and Promenade.

Visitors can marvel at large-scale artworks made by local artists from locally-harvested bamboo and enjoy music from the Imagine Bamboo Orchestra, led by Pagoda Arts with young musicians from across the region.

Run away with the bamboo circus

At Saturday’s event, coordinated through Sefton Council’s Libraries Service, there will also be the chance to run away with the bamboo circus, have a go at designing and making your own creation in our bamboo crafting zone. Plus, promenade physical theatre performances.

Bamboo is widely held to be one of the most important sustainable materials in the world. It has uses in design, construction, green innovation, farming and carbon capture.

Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere is part of the Liverpool City Region Cultural Events programme. It sees local residents, young climate leaders and artists from across Liverpool City Region coming together with engineers from Atelier One and bamboo specialists to explore bamboo as a sustainable material for the future.

Used across the world

Cllr Trish Hardy, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing, said: “Saturday’s event in Southport will be a chance for families to take part in a range of fun events.

“As well as running away with bamboo circus, visitors will be able to find out how bamboo is used right across the world as a structural material for scaffolding, bridges, housing, and buildings.

“It will also be an opportunity to learn how through its sustainability, bamboo can help us achieve net zero by 2040.”
