Green space, trees and development SPD

Adopted SPD

The Green Space, Trees and Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) sets out detailed guidance for developers to provide or enhance green spaces and plant trees in association with their development proposals. It relates especially to policies DQ3 ’Trees and Development’ and DQ4 ’Public Greenspace and Development’ of the adopted Unitary Development Plan (2006).

The SPD includes information on the situations where we want green space and/or trees to be provided within the development site and the situations where we prefer developers to provide commuted sums so that green space or trees can be provided or enhanced elsewhere, but still related to the development site. Also the SPD sets out how we apply commuted sums for development schemes, and how we usually calculate them.

The priorities for spending these commuted sums are set out in the draft Green Space Strategy for Sefton, and in more specific, linked strategies such as the Parks and Green Spaces Asset Management Strategy and Playing pitch strategy.  These priorities take into account the views of Area Committees and the Planning Committee.

The SPD was adopted by the Council on 31st July 2008.

Background documents

The Sustainability Report and Habitat Regulations Assessment (HRA) screening document which relate to the Green Space, Trees and Development SPD were also approved by the Council on 31st July 08.  The Green Space Strategy for Sefton was approved for consultation purposes on 12th June 08. This sets out the vision and aims for green space in Sefton and draft green space targets for quantity, quailty and accessibility of green space.
