Ensuring choice of travel SPD

We have been developing a Supplementary Planning Document, Ensuring Choice of Travel, to update the current Supplementary Planning Guidance Note. The development of the SPD is being undertaken on a Merseyside wide basis and as such the document is identified in the Local Development Schemes for all the Merseyside Districts.

The SPD is identified in the Local Transport Plan for Merseyside (2006-11) as a critical element of the plan and it highlights the importance of the document to make sure that sustainable transport issues are thoroughly considered in new developments. The aim of the SPD is to provide a consistent framework for assessing accessibility across Merseyside.

As there isn’t a statutory sub-regional planning authority for Merseyside, the individual Local Planning Authorities will seek to adopt the document separately. It is recognised that through this process there may be local variations in the content of the document.
