Equality and diversity

Welcome to the Equality and Diversity section of our website. Here you will find all the corporate work taking place to meet our equalities agenda and to comply with legislation.

Latest news

The Council has now set it's draft equality objectives and is currently consulting on these. If you want to share your views with us please email cpt@seton.gov.uk.

Transformation work continues as austerity measures impact on the council. All proposals for changes to services have a Equality Analysis report which identifies issues that we need to be mindful off and mitigate against to ensure we are not discriminating. All the reports are contained within the Cabinet papers and can be viewed here.

All our departments as part of their on-going work identify and assess the equality implications in delivering their work. They do this through a number of methods including business planning and equality analysis reports. A typical template to assist with this programme can look like this.

As part of our on going work we have a core evidence base which details who is in our community and the types of issues they may face. In addition we have produced a smaller report looking at population.

As a large employer we collect data on our workforce structure including recruitment, retention, redundancies and training. We have also conducted an equal pay review to ensure we have fair terms and conditions across all of our workforce.

Equal Pay

The Council strives for equal pay.  An equal pay audit has been completed for employees covered by the National Joint Council pay and conditions of service. There are plans in place to carry out further audits for employees covered by separate conditions of service. The gender pay gap information for the NJC population of staff indicates that there is very minimal pay difference between our male and female employees. The Council has been working closely with the trade unions and the pay grades relating to NJC staff were jointly agreed between the Council and the trade unions.

Training

As part of our on-going commitment we also have a comprehensive training programme to ensure all of our staff have an awareness and an understanding of the principles and performance associated with delivering of services in a fair and supportive manner. In addition our training programme also covers project officers, managers and senior managers in skilling them to identify how the general duties are relevant to their areas of work and how they can assess performance against these duties.
