The Bedford/ Queens neighbourhood has a range of community facilities that provide a valuable resource to local people.

The Queens Road Neighbourhood Centre has been providing a range of  community facilities since 1990. The centre will be redeveloped as part of the Housing Market Renewal proposals for the area, providing a  more modern resource and this will be done in partnership with the centre trustees, staff, users and the wider community.  During this time the community centre will continue to provide a range of services and facilities that meet the needs of the local community.

 

Current Projects

 

  • Pre School Project -The Nursery is open to all families in South Sefton. There is a waiting list but preference may be given to families living in the Queens Road area. Contact Pat McAlister 0151 476 8425

 

  • After-school Project -The project is open to children in South Sefton with preference given to those living in the Queens Road area.  The age range is 5-11 yrs old. Contact Sue Stanton 0151 476 8425
  • Junior Youth Project -The group meets two nights a week and provides educational and leisure opportunities for children aged 10-13 yrs old. Contact Sue Stanton 0151 476 8425.

   

  • Young Persons Project -Aimed at young people between the ages of 13-18 yrs old. It provides an opportunity for young people to meet and socialise with each other and take up educational opportunities which they themselves have identified. Contact Sue Thorpe 0151 933 4737

Christ Church Youth and Community Centre opened in 1987 and has developed  a valuable community led resource serving the local population. Current Projects

 

  • Church Lads' & Church Girls Brigade - Uniformed youth organisation. Contact the centre for details ofmeeting times.

 

  • Duke of Edinburgh Award (14-25 yrs) - A voluntary, non competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities, designed to support personal and social development of young people

 

  • Homework Group (10-14yrs) - Providing access to help with homework in equiped ICT suite.

 

  • Parents and Toddlers Group - Meets twice a week

 

  • Playscheme - Providing supervised childcare and play activities during each school holiday.

 

  • Youth Group ( 10-16 yrs) - Varied leisure and opportunities for young people.

 

  • After School Club (10-14 yrs) - Runs five evenings a week through out the school year with a varied programme of recreational and study support.

 

  • Health Promotion Project (10-16 yrs) - A project to raise awareness of key health issues.

 

  • Media Training Programme ( 14-18 yrs) - A project to teach media skills to young people

 

  • Young Mens Group (11-16yrs) - A variety of activities, discussions, drama, theatre, music , photography.

 

  • Leisure Courses - Open to every one

 

  • Martial arts - Goyaru Group training

 

  • UK Online Project - Learning opportunities for the whole community including formal IT training and quakifications.

 

  • Life- Stiles (over 50's) - A weekly programme of activities for older people to improve their quality of life.

 

  • Credit Union - Meeting on Tuesday evenings, offering access to high interest saving facilities and low interest loans.

Bedford Road Community Centre is based in the old Bedford Road Primary School. The centre has been recently re opened and  volunteers from the local neighbourhood are working hard to develop a range of activities to meet the needs of the community it serves.

 

Current Activities

 

  • Local Net Cafe - Provides internet access for local people and cheap refreshments

 

  • Keepfit sessions for Adults - Computers dont byte, Introduction to computers

 

  • Mother and Toddler Group run inconjunction with Smart Stars - Monthly Pamper sessions

 

  • Playscheme - During school holidays

Community Visions is run by and for local people in the Bedford Queens area. It operates from Stanley Road and  provides a range of services.

  • Credit Union - Collection point for the local credit union

 

  • Local information point - Information about a range of neighbourhood services and initiatives including regeneration.

 

  • Office services including fax, photocopying, email - Small charges apply please ask.

 

  • Neighbourhood wardens surgery - Wardens available

 

  • Sefton @Work - Employment advisors available Tuesday afternoons, please ring for more details
