Distance learning
The Distance Learning
team is part of the Complementary Education Service.
Purpose:
Distance Learning works to support groups within the
Complementary Education Service through the innovative use of
ICT.
What We Do
Pupils referred to the Service are given access to both ICT
hardware and software to continue and enhance their learning.
Using the latest software (including DVDs created in-house)
we adapt the curriculum to the needs of vulnerable pupils.
We use web conferencing extensively to ensure regular
communication and support as well as video lessons to ensure
teaching materials are continuously available.
Virtual Learning Environment
Since 2002 we have provided assistance to our pupils through our
Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to enable learning at any time
via the Internet. This is used in collaboration with other online
educational packages that allow for continual assessment and
support. PC based CDROM and DVD materials back up this online
support. We have now moved our work to Sefton's
new VLE Sematrix. Our
ultimate goal is to link all our services and support in our
virtual
school.
Our teaching and support staff use these new technologies
provided by Distance Learning to support the achievement of
vulnerable groups including Home Tuition pupils, Teenage Pregnancy,
Travellers, EAL pupils, Young carers and Asylum
Seekers.
eSafety
Please visit our eSafety page to find information about staying
safe on the internet.
EZONE
At present we are developing an area for our pupils to access
materials outside of school called the ezone. This area connects various
sites to support pupil learning.
Our handbook for teachers is
available here to download in PDF format. (pdf
1,680KB)
We also have further information about the role of
Distance Learning.
Distance Learning is lead by Development Officer Andrew
Malcolm.
