Health on Wheels

The cycling for health scheme
is a cycle initiative for people who have experienced ill health
and provides people with the opportunity to cycle, build
confidence, cycle in a group and have fun.
This is a joint venture
between Sefton Primary Care Trust, Sefton Council, CTC
and Cycling Projects.
The project is supported by both Aintree and Southport
hospitals cardiac rehab team, and the Council’s Excel to Health GP
referral programme. All parties involved in the project encourage
the wide provision of physical activity initiatives, and cycling is
an ideal example of moderate gentle/intensity exercise.
The Cycling for Health initiative can become a great example
of phase four cardiac rehabilitation and GP referral, for general
health improvement offering people the chance to be involved in
community based activities, therefore maximising the use of green
spaces and cycle routes within the borough.
