Household waste recycling centres

You can dispose of large household items or green waste at a waste recycling centre.

A permit scheme has been introduced at the waste recycling centres within Sefton.

You can access the waste recycling centres without a permit to dispose of household waste if you are driving a car with or without a trailer (trailer up to 2m long).

You can access the waste recycling centres with a permit to dispose of household waste if you are driving a van or are using a trailer (trailer between 2 and 3m long).

For the purposes of this scheme, a van is defined as:
  • Any vehicle without side/rear windows
  • Any ‘flat back’ vehicle
  • Any ‘pickup’ vehicle
  • Estate/hatchback /4x4/ cars with rear seats permanently removed
  • Estate/hatchback /4x4/ cars with blanked out side/rear windows

You cannot access the waste recycling centres if you are driving a vehicle above 3.5 tonnes gross weight or with a trailer longer than 3m.

Further information on the permit scheme, including details on how to apply for annual or temporary permits, is available from Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority who operate the waste recycling centres.

Alternatively you may wish to use the Civic amenity service for the collection of bulky household items.
