Real Nappies
Real nappies are nappies made from
100% pure cotton. They are washable and so not disposable after one
use. Real nappies come in a variety of shapes and styles with
Velcro and popper fittings. They don’t need to be soaked and can be
washed on their own or with the rest of the laundry.

Benefits of Real Nappies
Financial
Using a nappy laundering service or
laundering real nappies at home can save you hundreds of pounds,
over the period of time your baby is in nappies.
A nappy laundry service will provide
all the nappies a baby needs and will charge approximately £50
for a months service.
Nappies and covers can be bought
individually and prices vary according to the type and style of
nappy. Buying nappies to wash at home can cost between
£140-£500.
This is significantly cheaper than
disposable nappies, which can cost in the region of £800 (from
birth to potty trained). The savings are event greater when real
nappies are used on a second or third child.
Environmental
Nearly 3 billion disposable nappies
are thrown away in the UK every year. On Merseyside we throw away
about 60 million every year, most of which will end in up in
landfill. It is not known how long it takes the plastics in nappies
to decompose – recent estimates place it at up to 200 years.
Health
Real cotton nappies contain no
chemicals and are breathable. For some children they may reduce
eczema and allergies.
