Cycling in Southport
Cycling is an ideal way to travel around Southport.
A number
of traffic-free routes are being developed around
the seafront to make cycling the perfect way to
explore the town.
Southport is home to the western end of the Trans Pennine Trail, a
multi-user route to Hull and Hornsea on the North Sea.
Starting at the specially-commissioned Seamark on Southport's
new-look promenade the route travels south and for most of the next
14 miles follows a traffic free route along the track bed of the
old Cheshire Lines Railway, towards Liverpool, where it turns east
to cross the Pennines.
Southport promenade is also an ideal starting point from which
to explore Sefton's Natural
Coast. Why not take the opportunity to visit Antony
Gormley's 'Another Place' life size sculptures in Crosby or Formby
Point featuring the National Trust Red Squirrel Reserve?
A range of cycle maps are available to suggest convenient
routes, which can be used to get from ‘A to B’ or for a leisurely
cycle ride around town. Bikes can also be taken free of
charge on Merseyrail trains at any time.
You can view or download
the Sefton cycle map here.
