Health and safety inspections

We inspect a wide range of commercial premises including:

  • Retail food and none food

  • Warehouses

  • Offices

  • Residential accomodation

  • Hotels and catering establishments

Many inspections will be based on the current priority topics highlighted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in their strategic programmes although issues which relate to specific health and safety matters in the premises will still be addressed.

Inspections will establish if businesses are complying with the law and may include examination of:

  • documents

  • risk assessments

  • safety systems

  • employee work instructions

  • equipment safety inspection reports

Appropriate action will be taken where businesses are not complying with the law, this may include:-

  • verbal advice and letters

  • service of improvement notices (for more serious matters)

  • Prohibition notices (for matters of imminent risk)

  • prosecution (were the breach of the law is considered to be extreme or there is a history of none compliance).

More information about the inspection process is available from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) publication What to expect when a health and safety inspector calls.
