Certificates
The Register Office for Sefton holds registers of births, deaths
and marriages which took place within the district dating back to
1837. However, because of boundary changes over the years, you may
have to apply to a different office than you expect for the
certificate you require. Please contact the office that you think
may hold the certificate and we will be able to advise you
further.
If you require information about life events earlier than 1837,
please contact library staff in the local and family history library service

Can I trace a long lost relative or friend?
At the local register offices we only keep records of births,
deaths and marriages, and the details given at the time of those
events. We do not keep updated records of a person’s whereabouts.
Try contacting the electoral register for the district covering the
person’s last known address: the Local History library staff may be
able to guide you to the right source.
