Music service
Mission Statement
Sefton Music Service aims to deliver high quality provision;
supporting and enhancing the musical opportunities available to
pupils in Sefton schools.
We seek to meet the aspirations of all pupils, schools and
service staff. The Music Service is committed to the community and
cultural life of Sefton.
What we do – Instrumental and vocal teaching in Sefton
maintained schools
Sefton Music Service is committed to achieving the highest
standards in music education for all pupils in Sefton maintained
schools.
As well as focusing on instrumental and vocal tuition in
schools the Service provides the opportunity for wider musical
experience through the participation in a broad range of ensembles,
music centres and other activities.
Music Service staff are among the best instrumental and
vocal teachers. Standards are maintained through continuing
professional development which is offered through the Service’s own
programme of in-service training. Staff also regularly attend
externally provided courses. Sefton Music Service is at the
forefront of current trends in music teaching through its close
links with FMS (Federation of Music Services), ABRSM (Associated
Board of the Royal Schools of Music), Voices Foundation, National
Association of Music Education and other organisations.
What the Service does:
- Raises the musical attainment of pupils by introducing them to
instrumental and vocal skills and providing opportunities for those
skills to be developed to the highest standards.
- Supports pupils in acquiring skills, which will allow them to
enjoy and become actively involved in a wide range of musical
experiences contributing to the musical life of the school and
community.
- Promotes pupil's understanding of music in the everyday life of
their own and other cultures.
- Helps pupils to develop musicianship and sensitivity to music
through playing, singing and performing thus enabling them to
realise their musical potential.
- Encourages a wide range of social and personal skills,
including self-confidence, and develops a sense of personal
achievement and self-expression in pupils.
- Contributes to school improvement by supporting the development
