Public Consultation Now Closed
A ‘Safeguarding Employment Land Supplementary Planning Document’
(SPD) is currently being prepared to support the Council’s planning
policies on ‘employment land’ (i.e. office, industrial sites etc).
Once finalised, this document will be used to assess planning
applications to develop office / industrial sites for housing and
other uses.
The aim of the draft SPD is to maintain a good supply of
employment land to support the local economy and local jobs.
However, a number of exceptions apply that would allow less
important sites to be developed for other uses. For example,
developments that secure a large proportion of affordable housing
or involve mixed-use development are encouraged. The guidance will
also not prevent local businesses from expanding or
modernising.
A draft version of the SPD was subject to a 6 week public
consultation during November and December of 2010. A number of
responses were submitted to the public consultation, and these will
be taken into account in producing a final version of the document.
The final SPD is likely to be adopted as policy in Spring 2011.
The public consultation version of the SPD can be downloaded
below:
Additionally, a report to Planning Committee on 15th
September 2010 about the SPD is also available to download:
